Sonny Dykes: Play-making ability expected from freshman WR Rashee Rice

SMU freshman Rashee Rice looked like a wily veteran in getting the start against Memphis last Saturday.

SMU wide receiver Reggie Roberson Jr. missed last Saturday's game against Memphis with a foot injury. On Monday, coach Sonny Dykes said he expects Roberson back eventually, but not this week.

Enter freshman Rashee Rice, a former three-star high school recruit from Richland High School. In a huge American Athletic Conference matchup against Memphis, one might think the spotlight would have been a little too bright for the freshman.

Instead, Rice showed the conference-game record crowd 59,506 at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium -- and the millions who watched the game on ABC -- that there's a legitimate reason why Dykes, the rest of the coaching staff and the players are extremely confident in his abilities.
