Shane Buechele was named the American Athletic Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
Shane Buechele has been lights out as the quarterback for the SMU football team. Saturday's performance -- 457 yards and six touchdowns, both career highs, in a win against Temple -- will be either one fans speak about for a long time.
Sunday morning, Buechele was named the Walter Camp FBS National Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts. The following morning, the Texas transfer was named the American Athletic Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

Buechele shared weekly offensive honors with Memphis running back Kenneth Gainwell, who accounted for 307 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns in a 47-17 win against Tulane. The freshman rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown and also had nine catches for 203 yards and two scores, becoming the first FBS player with 100 rushing yards and 200 receiving yards in more than two decades.
One of Buechele's primary targets Saturday was Reggie Roberson Jr. The junior wide receiver had a monster game, finishing with eight catches for 250 yards and three touchdowns, and he was recognized on the AAC Weekly Honor Roll.
The Mustangs had 655 of total yards on offense Saturday against Temple. In 4 of 7 games this season, SMU has tallied 500-plus yards of offense.
Against Temple, SMU's offensive effort was the second-best, from a single-game yardage perspective, in school history. The Mustangs accounted for 728 yards -- ironically, against Temple -- in a win back in 2013.
Buechele, Roberson and the Mustangs now prepare for Houston, as it is a short week. The Mustangs and Cougars will collide in Houston Thursday night. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
