Shane Buechele had career numbers in passing yards and touchdowns against Temple, and he was nationally rewarded for it.

Two weeks ago, wide receiver James Proche was named the Walter Camp FBS National Offensive Player of the Week after his sensational performance in SMU's triple-overtime comeback victory against Tulsa.

On Sunday, it was quarterback's Shane Buechele to earn the spotlight. Buechele's outstanding performance against Temple earned him Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week honors, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced Sunday morning.

Buechele threw for 457 yards and six touchdowns in a 45-21 win over Temple. He completed 30 of 53 passes and led the Mustangs to another big American Athletic Conference victory. More importantly, Buechele has the No. 19 Mustangs 7-0 overall and 3-0 in AAC play.

"We knew we could take shots against [Temple]," Buechele said. "I know we have some guys on offense that can run, so it's ultimately letting them do their thing, get their release and go. It's up to me just to throw it up and let them run under it.

"It makes it really easy whenever they're doing what they're doing. I just throw it up, and they do what they do."

Buechele is the fourth SMU player overall to earn Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004. Along with Proche, defensive end Jarvis Pruitt was named Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 22, 2016, and quarterback Garrett Gilbert was Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 27, 2013.

Per the Walter Camp Football Foundation release, all recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the foundation.
