SMU wide receiver James Proche was a big part of SMU's come-from-behind, triple-overtime victory over Tulsa late Saturday. In the 43-37 win, Proche caught 11 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning, 25-yard catch in the final overtime.
For his efforts, the senior receiver from Dallas was named the Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive Player of the Week by the Walter Camp Football Foundation on Sunday.
"I love winning," Proche said after the game. I've always been a winner, and we're going to keep winning."
Proche is the third SMU player to earn Walter Camp weekly national player honors since 2004. The last to garner recognition was defensive end Jarvis Pruitt on Oct. 22, 2016. Quarterback Garrett Gilbert also earned national honors on Oct. 27, 2013.
Proche was one half of an all-Texas selection for this week's honors. Texas Tech linebacker Jordyn Brooks was named the Defensive Player of the Week after his monster performance against No. 21 Oklahoma State. Brooks had 19 tackles (eight solo), three quarterback sacks and a forced fumble in the win over the Cowboys.
Per the Walter Camp Football Foundation release, all recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the foundation.
