There are a few championship games left, and a finite number of result combinations can make predictions easier.

That being said, SMU Football made another leap in the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday, rising one spot to No. 8, their highest ranking in program history. The Mustangs moved past Miami following a dominant 38-6 victory over Cal last weekend. This marks the third consecutive week SMU has climbed in the rankings.

Circulation is running rampant about whether the Mustangs can make the College Playoffs. SMU has just one loss on the season, which came in Week 3 against a then-undefeated BYU program.

Some factors can play a role, like if SMU loses to Clemson on Saturday.

Most of all, the question remains: If SMU does lose, do they deserve Alabama’s potential spot? But once again, that’s just a matter of opinion. It is all up to the committee.

The College Football Playoff (CFP) is a postseason event that determines college football’s national champion on the field while emphasizing the significance of the unique regular season, in which every game counts.

The CFP Selection show is set for Sunday.
