South Oak Cliff linebacker Jaydon Williams has north of 20 offers, and he is inching closer to announcing a verbal commitment. On Monday, he introduced his top six schools to the masses.

SMU made the cut -- as did Texas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Kansas and Arizona State. The 6-2, 194-pound defender is being recruited to SMU by running backs coach Ra'Shaad Samples and also has been in regular contact with defensive coordinator Kevin Kane, who coaches the linebackers.

A three-star outside linebacker, Williams reconfirmed with The HillTopics that he is still planning on committing to a program on May 1. Following the announcement of his top six, Williams spoke highly of the Mustangs and why they are a contender.

"It's the hometown team," Williams said. "Coach Samples is the man. He makes you feel like SMU is going to be great year after year."

Williams is proof that a position change can be for the better. He's a one-time wide receiver who switched to the defensive side of the ball for SOC midway through the 2019 season. Williams finished the year with 32 tackles (eight for loss) and 10 sacks -- in only five games.

Per the Rivals.com Texas Top 145, Williams is ranked the No. 8 outside linebacker and No. 128 overall player in Texas.
