According to a report, SMU point guard Kendric Davis will look to test the NBA waters after the season.

Per The Dallas Morning News, a source close to the team said Davis is planning on entering his name in the 2020 NBA Draft following the season. The 5-11 sophomore guard is second on the Mustangs in scoring at 14.2 points per game, and he leads the American Athletic Conference in assists, averaging 6.7 per contest.

Davis also averages 4.1 rebounds a game and shoots 45% from the field and 85% from the free throw line.

Davis is in his first year with SMU after transferring from TCU. He missed the first four games of this season waiting on an appeal of a waiver to play by the NCAA. His first game was Nov. 23 at UNLV, where he had 21 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Davis has had several big nights for the Mustangs. Among his season highlights was a near triple-double performance against Tulane, where he finished with 18 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds.

Against South Florida on Saturday, Davis, statistically, had one of his worst games, finishing with only three points and three assists. But throughout the season, he's earned the respect of his teammates as a leader and a go-to player.

"He's one of the best point guards in the league, and he shows it every night," forward Feron Hunt said of Davis earlier this season. "He's proven what he can do, and I don't think one night will define him."

Many basketball players test the NBA waters in an effort to get a draft grade and advice on whether or not the decision to make the jump from college ball to pro ball is the right move. Davis can test the NBA waters and return to SMU for the 2020-21 season as long as he doesn't sign with an agent.

The NBA early entry eligibility deadline is April 26. If Davis officially submits his name in the draft, he'll have until June 15 to withdraw.
