One of the respected voices of SMU football the past two years, Patrick Nelson will be watching the Mustangs as they play the 2020 season.

A day away from opening kickoff, and one of SMU's favorite sons delivered a special message to his former team.

2020 will be the first time in three seasons that Patrick Nelson won't be wearing No. 2 on the sidelines for the Mustangs. It also will be the first time the former all-American Athletic Conference defender is not playing college football since first stepping on the field at Illinois in 2015.
