Hulick still solid

Esperanza (CA) offensive lineman Carl Hulick got a taste of what to expect next year on the Hilltop. Last week, Hulick teamed up with future teammates Robert Lewis and Kache Palacio in the Cal State All-Star Game.

"The All-Star game went great. I thought I played really well. It was really fun. I got to talk to Kache and Robert so it was really cool. It was great to visit with them. We talked about football and SMU, but we were focused on the game," Hulick said. "They are really cool guys. We played on the same team so it was cool. Kache absolutely balled about. He made so many plays, and it was fun to watch. Robert played really well too. It was really cool to know we are going to be playing with each other next year. The time is almost here."

Former SMU offensive line coach Adrian Klemm was at one time recruiting all three prospects. Hulick admitted that he was disappointed that Klemm bolted for UCLA but is happy about building a new relationship with running backs coach Wes Suan, who is coaching the offensive line in SMU's bowl game.

"I was kind of bummed that Coach Klemm left, but everything happens for a reason. I don't know if is going to reach out to me, but if he does, I might take a look at UCLA. Coach Suan is recruiting me now at SMU. I think I have a good relationship with him to. He called me a couple of days ago, and it was really cool to talk to him since he's coaching the offensive line now. I think I would enjoy playing for him."

Despite holding three other offers, Hulick is not interested in talking to any other programs at the moment. The three-star center is currently happy with his decision and has no official visits planned.

"I'm still pretty solid on SMU. I'm not sure where else I would go. I'm not really interested in any other schools right now. I haven't been talking to anybody. As of now, there isn't really anything going on. Everybody knows I'm pretty set on SMU. It's a really good school, and I really like the attitude around the program."

Now that football season is officially over, Hulick has lofty goals set for wrestling season this spring.

"Right now, I'm wrestling. I'm focused on winning state so I'm working really hard. Right now, I'm at about 275 for wrestling, but by the time I get to SMU I should be around 300. I'm going to be in the weight room doing squats and power cleans. I've never had a problem with gaining or losing weight. I don't feel like it's going to be a problem for me to get back up to 300."
