Hoops notebook: Unplanned SMU defensive change works in win

UNIVERSITY PARK -- Despite having to go to a defensive set not preferred by head coach Tim Jankovich, SMU was able to limit New Orleans to 34.9 percent shooting and 16.7 percent from deep in a 77-64 win Tuesday.

New Orleans started by making its first five shots of the game and building an early 14-5 lead in the first quarter -- at which point Jankovich made the move to go from straight man to a zone defense.
