Bryce Wilds commits to SMU

SMU picked up the biggest commit yet in its 2015 class: 6-foot-6 Brazosport offensive tackle Bryce Wilds.
"Honestly, I had my mind made up before the visit. I just had to confirm it, spend some time around everybody," Wilds told the HillTopics. "Coach (Chad) Morris was a gigantic selling point to SMU. He is a great man and I'm excited to be coached by him."

"Actually, I kind of messed with him a little bit (on Sunday). I was telling him that I was going to talk to my family about it but then I told he I was committing and he was really happy."
Wilds was committed to Houston but flipped over to the Mustangs while on his official visit this past weekend.
"My favorite part was just getting to hang out with all the coaches," Wilds said. "I didn't really meet any of the players but I got to hang out with Ben (Hicks), coach (Dustin) Fry, coach (Joe) Craddock. It was good."
Hicks, another former Houston commit, has a good relationship already with Wilds and was his player host over the weekend.
"Ben's my guy. We were both committed to Houston so I hung out with him a lot, we went to games together, so it was good," Wilds said before adding, "I also know Braeden West (the third former Houston commit in SMU's 2015 class)."
Wilds also held offers from Northwestern, Tulsa, New Mexico, UNT, UTSA and Rice, among others. The relationship he built in short time with the SMU coaching staff was a big part of his decision.
"Coach Craddock came down by himself one time, first I met with anybody from SMU. I talked to him, it was good. Two days later he came, coach Fry came down, coach Archie McDaniel came down," Wilds said. "Coach McDaniel was the main guy in my recruitment. He recruited me at New Mexico, knew all my high school coaches."
McDaniels was excited about Wilds' addition to SMU and revealed on Twitter the position the big man would play at SMU.

"I play left tackle so I'm extremely excited about it," Wilds said. "I'm pretty confident I will come in and play early."
"This class is going to make a big impact. We've got a lot of great wide receivers, two great running backs; three actually (if you count Daniel Gresham, who redshirted this season at SMU). Ben's amazing, he's going to be really good. It's going to be fun."
While on the visit, Wilds got to see the weight room and meet strength and conditioning coach Trumain Carroll.
"I've heard weight program was pretty crazy. It only started last week but apparently it was pretty intense."
Wilds for now is playing other sports and enjoying his senior year.
"I play basketball so I'm keeping in shape," Wilds joked. "And then during track season is when my weight workouts will take off. I'm taking it easy for now."
