Aymiel Fleming gets SMU offer while on visit

The HillTopics caught up with recently SMU offered defensive tackle Aymiel Fleming. Fleming, a 2016 Rivals two-star, hails from just south of Houston in La Marque, Texas. Fleming took a visit to Dallas last Friday and he couldn't be happier that he did.
"I fell in love with the campus immediately," Fleming said. "We got to ride around the campus in a little golf cart and since coach Van Malone and coach Archie McDaniels are like best friends they made it feel like a real family environment. I wanted to visit SMU because after I first got offered I kept hearing stories about how beautiful it was so I wanted to see it for myself."

In his short recruiting process with SMU, so far, Fleming has had a lot of time to get to know the new SMU coaching staff.
"The coaches have been saying that they love me and they really want me for this class. I face-timed coach Chad Morris and he says I could make a big difference if I just do what I do best," Fleming said. "Coach Malone was just telling me a lot of stories and he was teaching me some schemes. He's a genius when it comes to defense and I was basically getting a coaching clinic on my visit and I loved it."
Fleming was honored to have been offered by SMU despite its recent football record due to their historic ability to produce some top notch athletes.
"They came to visit me on a Thursday and then offered me on a Friday. I was really surprised and I'm still speechless sometimes," Fleming said. "A lot of great players have come out of SMU like Eric Dickerson."
Fleming, like most native Houstonians, is especially proud of the talent he sees coming out of his area and he hopes to see SMU recruit more from south Texas.
"They are pipelining a lot of talent out of Houston and Galveston and I want to see what they do with it," Fleming said. "If they don't lead the conference next season I'll be surprised."
Fleming keeps a really watchful eye on what could be his class at SMU and he's taken notice of just how many offers and commitments SMU has received already.
"They have some big time guys already and they're working on a lot more. I watch the feed on twitter and I'm catching all these guys committing so I think it's going to be a good class with a lot of good talent guys," Fleming said.
Unlike several other 2016s, Fleming hasn't felt the same pressure to commit by his peers.
"I've talked to some other guys that have been offered but we only really talk about normal stuff," Fleming said. "It's more of a family feel, no one really focuses on football, even though we are all thinking it."
Fleming currently holds seven football offers but only two in Texas with his SMU offer and an offer from UTSA.
"I think this summer my offers are going to go up and right now I don't really have a list but I know SMU is up there, that's a fact. "
Besides SMU's rising football program, Fleming took a lot of interest in SMU's Cox School of Business and what it could do for him in the future.
"I love the alumni base at SMU. They have one of the most lucrative alumni bases and you can get a lot done just from networking," Fleming said. "They have so many pictures of CEO's at Fortune 500 companies and that plays a big role for me. I'm split between biomedical engineering and business just because SMU has such a great program."
Despite that Fleming could receive plenty more offers during his season, he has his sights set on committing at the beginning of his senior season.
"Ideally, I would love to commit to a school on my birthday, August 3. And hopefully by 6:00 p.m.," Fleming said.
