We knew SMU's 2018 class was going to be small.
Despite still being saddled with recruiting restrictions, SMU head coach Tim Jankovich and the Mustangs hoped they could pick up one or two quality additions.
They certainly did that on Thursday when 6-8 small forward Feron Hunt announced his commitment to SMU.
The consensus 4-star prospect and former TCU commit chose SMU over Texas A&M. Both programs made the hardest push for his services since Hunt decommitted on October 20th.
Hunt also chose the Mustangs over offers from Wichita State, Arkansas, Houston, UT-Arlington, Tulsa and Western Kentucky.
247 Sports ranks Hunt among the best in the state and Rivals' composite rankings list him as the 137th best player in the class.
Hunt originally committed to TCU on September 3 via Twitter. He joined an already crowded class featuring 4-star prospects Kendric Davis and Russell Barlow.
His Urban DFW Elite teammate and former SMU target Kaden Archie committed to TCU on October 15th, just days before Hunt retracted his verbal. Hunt and Archie play the same position, but Hunt said that the decision was based purely on academics and his blossoming relationship with SMU's staff.
Hunt plays for DeSoto High School, home of SMU's other 2018 commit, Jahmar Young.
