"I really like the coaching staff and I felt like it was a great fit," Jones told the HillTopics. "I enjoyed everybody around me, it was great time."
Jones knew this was the school when he got home on Saturday night.
"When I came down here I already had a good feeling. I was praying and I felt like God got me to this point," Jones said. "Yesterday when I got home I told my mom, this was the place for me. She was very, very excited."
One highlight of the visit was watching SMU basketball take on UCF at Moody Coliseum.
"It was great. The SMU basketball team is really good. It shocked me because I'd never watched it before."
A big part of Jones' decision to pony up was the atmosphere of the campus; he said while on the Hilltop it "felt like I was at home. I was very comfortable."
Much of this had to do with the SMU coaching staff.
"They're really nice. When I told them I was committed, they made a big announcement and showed me a lot of love."
The point man in Jones' recruitment was running backs coach Claude Mathis.
"We've got a very good bond. I like him and I know he's going to be a great coach for me next year."
