Xavier Castille commits to SMU

Xavier Castille committed to SMU Sunday morning alongside three other new Mustangs. Castille is a Rivals three-star wide receiver and a huge pick up for SMU. Castille is five feet, 11 inches and 195 pounds. He holds offers from over 15 schools including Houston, UConn, Kansas, OK State, Tulsa, Texas State, and Memphis.
Like the other commits this weekend, Castille's campus visit solidified his decision.

"We toured the campus, hung out with a lot of the players, got to know the coaches a little bit better and really just got a feel for SMU and I guess really just gave me more reasons for why I said yes," Castille said.
Castille knew that he wanted to commit before he even left the campus.
"We visited with (Chad) Morris before we left and I told him before we headed out 'Coach I think it's time for me to commit' and he was really excited about it," Castille said. "I already kind of had a feeling that this weekend would be the time to do it but when I got here it really just felt like home."
SMU's new football staff has had a lot of activity today and they played a huge role in Castille's decision.
"They remind me a lot of my high school coaches," Castille said. "They really want to win and we all have a common goal, that's all that really matters."
Castille sees himself fitting in really well with the other commits as well as with the offense, which is similar to what his high school, Rockwall, plays.
"My family has been behind me the whole time with whatever decision I make," Castille said. "My high school coaches too, they knew I'd make a good decision."
Castille has a few ideas about what he wants to study at SMU and he thinks school will always come first.
"I definitely want to take football as far as it's going to take me but I'll never put football over academics because you can only play ball for so long," Castille said.
The official visit gave Castille a good opportunity to hang out with other commits and current Mustangs that he'd actually known for awhile.
"I've actually known these guys for a long time, longer than anybody thinks, it's really cool," Castille said. "We really got it kicked off really good this weekend. Coach really wants us to come in and make an impact immediately."
Similar to fellow commit Austin Corbett, the huddle around the mustang in Ford Stadium really touched Castille and made him want to join the family.
"When coach brought us into the huddle, he told us, 'I'm giving you everything I've got and I hope you give me everything you've got,' and we were all just standing there like a family and it just felt like the right time," Castille said.
