What SMU is getting in new commit Bruno Fernando

Three-star center Bruno Fernando is what you call a "statement maker." When he throws down one of his thunderous dunks or sends an attempted shot flying into the stands, he is trying to send a message to the opposing player. Fernando wants him to remember and think about that moment and let it get into his head. You get blocked by him, you'll be sure to think about it when you're going up for another shot in the paint. If he throws down a dunk on you, chances are you'll get out of his way the next time around.

Despite his brute force, Fernando shows some nice touch underneath the basket. He can post up and work around in the paint to find his shot. His hook shot is soft on the rim and accurate. Just don't go around hoping for Fernando to stretch the floor much as a freshman as a mid-range jumper is something he'll need to add in college to be more than a space eater in the paint.

Fernando knows how to do the things that are necessary as a big man. He sets strong screens and sets his feet wide and gets down low to make it difficult for anyone to get around him. He knows how to box out and is strong enough to hold his ground against just about anybody in the post. He is long enough to go up and get a rebound over an opponent, which is especially handy when he is trying to get an offensive rebound.
