It was a late night for Friendswood quarterback Tyler Page. Page decided to announce his commitment to SMU late Monday night and was fielding twitter congrats all night. The freak athlete two-star committed to SMU after something head coach Chad Morris said to players at camp in the beginning of summer.

“Coach Morris talked about going to a school that you would be happy with during the whole year, not just on game days,” Page said. “That was a big part of choosing SMU.”

In his junior season, Page racked up more than 1,100 yards passing with 12 touchdowns but a mere 50 percent completion rating and eight interceptions take Page out of the running for being a quarterback for the Mustangs. However, an additional 2,000 yards rushing and 24 touchdowns showed the coaching staff that Page has a lot more to offer than his arm.

“They want to use me in as many was possible,” Page said. “They said I will probably start out as a receiver. I’m comfortable with it because I know the coaches value me and it’s exciting to me.”

One area SMU has struggled in recently could see a dramatic increase in production. The SMU coaching staff also wants to see what Page can do in the kick return game as well. However they use the 6-foot-0, 180-pound athlete, SMU fans can be confident that they’ve just secured another impact player.

“I wasn’t nervous about committing to a team on the come-up at all,” Page said. “I know the coaching staff is pretty new to SMU and they are trying to turn it around. I would love to be a part of that and be an impact player.”

Page is now the 14th member of StangGang17 and the only currently classified as “athlete.”

“I feel great. I finally have a place to call home.”
