A college football ranking isn't everything, but for the SMU Mustangs, every win is appreciated, particularly when some predictors didn't expect much.

The SMU football team will enter the upcoming week ranked for the third consecutive week -- with the possibility of cracking the top 20 for the first time since the 1986 season. Quite an achievement for a team not even expected by some to be a top-five team in the American Athletic Conference prior to the start of the season.

SMU currently is 6-0 and ranked No. 21 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll. The Mustangs are idle this week, but with the teams immediately ahead of them, there is a chance to move up the rankings without even playing.
