SMU tight end Kylen Granson was named to the Eckrich Team of the Week powered by PFF on Sunday.
The offensive weapons for the SMU football team go far past quarterback Shane Buechele, wide receiver James Proche and running back Xavier Jones. Tight end Kylen Granson has put his stamp on the team -- particularly in the last few weeks.
Granson has recorded 20 of his 33 receptions in the last four games for the Mustangs. He also has seven of his eight touchdowns during that span. Against East Carolina on Saturday, Granson had a career day, hauling in seven receptions for 138 yards and three touchdowns in a 59-51 victory.
For his efforts, PFF named him to the Eckrich National Team of the Week powered by PFF.

"On the other end of the SMU-ECU shootout, Granson hauled in three more touchdowns to his impressive 2019 campaign, giving him eight for the year and seven in his last four games," PFF wrote in its analysis on Granson. "All he did was convert as three more receptions went for a first down and he saw a perfect 158.3 passer rating when targeted."
A Rice transfer, Granson has been a quality security blanket for Buechele all season. His presence, however, has been valued even more with the absence of receiver Reggie Roberson Jr., who is still out nursing a foot injury.
Against the Pirates, Granson caught SMU's first two touchdown passes in the first quarter. He also scored what would be the game-clinching touchdown on a 31-yard pass play that also converted a fourth-and-20 play.
To add to his resume from the weekend, Granson recovered the onside kick with less than two minutes remaining to seal the victory.
"He made a bunch of big plays," SMU coach Sonny Dykes said of Granson. "You go back and look at the last couple of weeks, really starting against Houston, and he's just starting to make more plays.
"That's what good football teams do; when you lose one of your best players like Reggie, somebody else has to carry the load."
A junior from Austin, Granson came to SMU after playing two seasons at Rice. The 6-3, 235-pound tight end will have a college single-season career high in receptions with his next catch. SMU is idle this week and will next face Navy on Nov. 23.
