SMU commit looks to visit this weekend

The season has gotten off to a good 2-0 start for kicker Mike Loftus and his team at Servite High School in Anaheim, California. It didn't take long for the highly recruited prospect to show why he will be kicking at the Division-I level.
"I had a really good game last week," said Loftus. "I had a kickoff that went through the uprights. I had six or seven touchbacks and two punts inside the five. I'm just excited for the rest of the season."

Loftus also helps out his team at the linebacker and receiver positions as well.
"I really only go in at those two positions for situational stuff but I do play there though."
The two-star prospect will only have to concentrate on one spot on the field next year when the SMU commit moves to Dallas. It seems like a big transition for the West Coast standout but it's a change Loftus welcomes.
"The weather is not cold. I didn't want to go anywhere cold. I'm from Orange County and it doesn't get cold here ever. That's just not me. Plus, the business school is phenomenal. My dad is in business and says it's one of the best.
"The people there are different as well. Here, people wouldn't say 'hi' to you in the grocery store. But the people in Texas are real hospitable. It was something different and I liked it."
The studious recruit will bring his 4.1 GPA to the Lone Star State. Already proven to be excellent in the classroom, Loftus will have some big shoes to fill when senior and nationally known punter Thomas Morstead finishes his eligibility.
"Morstead is going to be a pro kicker. I don't feel any pressure though. I'm excited. I hang out with successful kickers that are in college right now and that helps. I'm excited to come in after this guy and do my thing."
Although he won't be able to suit up on Saturday, Loftus will be making an unofficial visit to SMU.
"This weekend I'm going on another unofficial, it will be my third. I was going to make it my official but they want me to come back later in the year for that. I look at it as a big game against TCU and it is also family weekend. I'm just excited to see what it's like on game day. That's something to look forward to."
Mustang fans should be looking forward to seeing Loftus on campus for good next summer. Until then, the California native remains committed to the Ponies.
"I'm a real strong commitment. I can't wait to get there."
