In both the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll, SMU is now the highest-ranked non-Power 5 team in the country.
With one sentence, SMU coach Sonny Dykes, following Saturday's 45-21 win over Temple, described the sentiments of many who have been watching his football team all season.
"I thought it was certainly the most complete game we have played up to this point," he said.
In arguably the most important game of the year for SMU so far, the team looked every bit like a top-20 team Saturday evening. And on Sunday, the Mustangs once again were rewarded in both the AP Top 25 Poll and the Coaches Poll.

SMU is now ranked No. 16 in the latest AP Top 25 and No. 17 in the latest Coaches Poll. It's the highest ranking for the Mustangs since October 1985.
SMU was ranked No. 19 in both polls last week. It moved up two spots in the Coaches Poll and three spots in the AP Top 25, and with Boise State's loss Saturday at BYU, the Mustangs are now the top-ranked Group of 5/non-Power 5 team in college football.
To add, the team's 7-0 record is the best start since the 1982 season, when the team went 11-0-1 -- back when guys like Eric Dickerson and Craig James were household names.
"I was really pleased with our effort defensively, and I thought our offense executed well," Dykes said. "We thought coming into the game that we had some favorable matchups with some of our skill guys, and we had to execute.
"Shane [Buechele] made some really great deep throws. Reggie [Roberson Jr.] made some plays. James [Proche] made some plays. All the guys did."
SMU now prepares for Houston in a short week, as the two teams will play a Thursday-night game in Houston. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
