The SMU football program is watching its 2021 class build, but the coaching staff also is very excited about the players of the immediate future. Back in February, head coach Sonny Dykes introduced 22 members of the 2020 class -- signees, grayshirts and preferred walk-ons -- to large SMU fan bases in both Dallas and Houston.

The HillTopics will take this time to reintroduce the fans to a few members of the 2020 class. Today's player to watch is El Dorado, Arkansas, offensive tackle Dalton Perdue.

DALTON PERDUE

Hometown/school: El Dorado, Arkansas/El Dorado HS

Height, weight: 6-7, 290

Recruited by: AJ Ricker

Reported offers: 7

Committed to SMU since June 8, Perdue is a physically imposing lineman who has great length and a hunger for learning more about being a complete athlete. He's a finisher in run situations, and he's shown himself to be very reliable in pass protection.

There's a very high ceiling for Perdue, who chose SMU over offers from Memphis, Tulane, Arkansas State and others. With the depth at offensive lineman, Perdue should benefit from a year of strength and conditioning and could become a major player for the Mustangs.

WHAT PERDUE TOLD THE HILLTOPICS

"From the second I stepped on campus during my official, I could tell it was for me. I clicked with the entire coaching staff."

WHAT SONNY DYKES SAID

"Dalton's a massive guy. He has the size and the length we're looking for. He's a good athlete who plays hard. I'm excited about him. What we're trying to do is find bigger guys like him on the offensive line."
