Padron staying strong to his commitment

It wasn't the first time this season that Southlake Carroll quarterback Kyle Padron had made it out to an SMU game. But when the current Mustang commit was in attendance for last weekend's battle against TCU, it was definitely a first for Padron to see the Ford Stadium almost full.
"I was really surprised," said Padron. "I know it was parents night and a big rivalry but I was surprised to see so many people there. As the game went on, the crowd grew. It was surprising to see that with the program not being successful over the last couple of years.

"It shows that everyone is excited and Coach Jones' addition is making SMU a great place to play. He's definitely helping make it a great atmosphere down there."
The 6-foot-3, 187-pound senior hopes to add to the atmosphere when he gets on the Hilltop next fall. As for right now, a 1-3 record on the year for the Mustangs isn't going to deter Padron.
"This year they're trying to make it a learning experience for everyone. It's going to take a while and take time. I'm not worried about it. It's still where I want to go"
In fact, the local gunslinger feels that the struggling Mustangs might provide a good opportunity for him next fall.
"Hopefully if it comes down to it, I can contribute next year. I thought the game went fine and was more of what the coaches expected."
A large part of Padron's commitment also has to do with quarterback coach Dan Morrison
"Coach Morrison calls me every week and asks me if I'm coming to the next home game. He calls me every week and we talk all the time. It's mainly small talk. I got down there on the field before the game and he asked me about my game the night before.
"We're pretty close and are building a pretty good relationship right now. Hopefully next year we'll be even closer."
Morrison wasn't the only staff member that Padron got to see on Saturday either.
"I met all the coaches last night. They seem pretty cool. I'm looking forward to it."
This weekend's Southlake game against Galena Park North Shore has been cancelled due to the looming effects of Hurrican Ike. However, Padron has led his team to a 3-0 record and number four ranking in the state. In a 35-10 win last week against Mesquite, Padron completed 30 of 44 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns.
