New SMU Commitment Spencer Hollie Talks

During his weekend visit to SMU picked up a commitment from Dublin (CA) 2013 defensive end Spencer Hollie. Hollie was very excited when he was offered and committed on the spot to SMU.
"I was offered right after SMU did their walkthrough on Saturday," said Hollie. "After walkthrough coach Hill and coach Jones took me into their office and offered me and I committed to SMU on the spot."

The 6-foot-6. 285-pound defensive end is happy to be following in his father's footsteps at SMU.
"My dad was very happy that I committed to his alma mater where he played defensive end too. He never pushed me to go to SMU and told me to commit wherever I felt comfortable committing to."
The California prospect says that SMU is his only offer at the moment but he has been getting serious interest from many top BCS schools, especially on the west coast.
"Oregon, Stanford, UNLV, Nevada and Michigan State had all been in contact with me. Michigan State was my favorite school growing up and I visited their campus a while back and I toured the campus at Stanford since it was close to home."
While on the Hilltop the newest Mustang got to see all the sites and sounds of a game day at SMU.
"I got to tour the campus and see all the facilities when I was. I was also able to watch walkthrough and talk with cornerback Chris Parks after I had committed and he told me that he was excited about me committing to SMU and how great the defense is here, he told me also how the defense at my high school is very similar to what SMU does so my transition will be easy."
During the football game Hollie sat in the section of the stadium where the recruits there. And it just so happened that he got to sit next to another prospect who had just committed to SMU.
"I spoke with Deion Sanders Jr. while I was at the game. He told me how they are going to change the face of the SMU program and be the team to beat in the future."
Along with his dad Hollie's mom was able to make the trip to SMU and talk with the coaching staff and was very pleased with what she saw.
"My mom likes the campus a lot. She likes how the coaching staff is real focused on the fact that academics play first and how the coaching staff is very committed in making sure that all players at SMU get a degree and graduate on time from SMU."
Even though this name is new to most, Hollie has been on the SMU radar now for quite some time.
"Coach Hill has been talking to me for about a month now. He has been really wanting me to visit SMU so I decided to make the trip for the SMU game versus Tulsa and the atmosphere was great even though most people were busy with thanksgiving stuff but the ones there were loud."
Hollie is coming off a difficult season which saw his team go 6-6 and make it only two rounds in playoffs, but his team did lose to the top team in California in his classification. After the season Hollie was named to all district first team defensive end.
Hollie will make one more trip down for a official visit right at the end of the 2013 recruiting period to see more of SMU.
"I will take a official visit to SMU the weekend before signing day. Just taking it to see more things and talk with the coaches face to face."
One thing for sure is Hollie is happy that the recruiting process is over for him.
"I am relived that the process is over. Now I can focus on school and cut my weight down to 265 in preparation for practice at SMU."
