Douglas Commits to SMU

SMU basketball has not waited a minute to fill in their 2017 commitment class. Newest commit William Douglas is the fourth (and most likely final commit) of the 2017 class.

"I'm excited and it's a relief to get all that pressure off of me," Douglas said. "I feel like I made the best possible decision."

Douglas told Rivals.com that he was planning to commit before the spring but before is apparently a loose term.

"It (recruitment) was getting stressful and I didn't want that stress to roll over to the season," Douglas said. "I wanted to focus on having a great season and winning state."

Douglas is a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Memphis and he chose SMU over TCU, FSU, Marquette, Memphis and Mississippi.

"My recruiting process with SMU was very unique," Douglas said. "Coach Tim Jankovich was very honest with the recruiting process as a whole and talked a lot about making selfish decisions. I felt like SMU was the best decision."

Douglas joins Elijah Landrum, Everett Ray and Ethan Chargois in his commitment and part of his decision stems from SMU being just the right distance away from home.

"The education, the distance from home and coach Jankovich are the factors that went into SMU being the perfect school for me," Douglas said. "Coach Jankovich was under Larry Brown, which means he learned a lot and he will be able to teach me a lot too."

As far as the players go, Douglas has met a few of them but is closest with one fellow Memphis native.

"I'm closest with Jonathan Wilfong," Douglas said. "His little brother and I played together."

Douglas has plenty of talent and he's only the second four-star prospect to commit to an AAC school this year.

"I'm looking forward to developing my skills at SMU," Douglas said. "I think my ability to do a little bit of everything will help out the team a lot."
