DeMarkus Acy keeps SMU in his top six

Dallas Wilmer-Hutchins safety DeMarkus Acy released his top six schools earlier in June and SMU made the cut among a handful of Big 12 teams.
Acy sees a unique opportunity at SMU to be a part of the rebuilding process under new head coach Chad Morris. He knows that Morris is attempting to restore SMU to where it once was as a top team in the country. That opportunity is the biggest reason that the Mustangs remain in his consideration.

"I'm very interested in SMU because they're bringing the program back to its prominence and that's what people would like to see out of the once-great SMU," the class of 2016 recruit said.
Acy has been in contact with Morris recently, and he frequently speaks with running backs coach Claude Mathis. Even Acy's family has connected with Mathis as well.
"I talk to coach Morris every now and then on Twitter but I'm always in contact with coach Mathis," Acy said. "He's met my mother already and his kids happen to run on my track team."
Acy said the two coaches consistently tell him to "join the ride" with them at SMU for "rejuvenating the program."
Acy also could see himself fitting in well in the Mustangs' defense. He believes SMU would love him to play cornerback, where he could fit the mold of a tall defensive back that can lockdown bigger receivers. At 6-foot-1 and 172 pounds, the two-star recruit could provide an upgrade in the SMU secondary.
"Anywhere they put me on the field I'll contribute but I guess at corner because I'm tall and lean with speed," Acy said.
Acy attended SMU's Junior Day this past spring. He said he is not sure if he will camp at SMU this summer due to his packed schedule of summer school and track.
Rounding out Acy's remaining schools are Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Kansas State and Kansas (which he said are in no particular order). He is looking for a "national championship year in and year out" and "loyalty from the coaches."
Acy also held offers from Arizona State, Arkansas State, Iowa State and Louisiana Lafayette.
