Brenham WR Treveon Johnson Talks SMU Commitment

SMU picked up a big last-minute commitment from Brenham HS wide receiver Treveon Johnson who was between SMU and Arkansas after parting ways with Oklahoma less than two weeks ago.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound senior visited the Hilltop in the last weekend of official visits and surprised himself with how much he liked SMU and the new coaching staff.

"I honestly felt like it would be a good fit for me," Johnson said. "They're letting me play on both sides of the ball, I'll play early and I know I can take over this conference."

Johnson certainly doesn't lack confidence. He thinks he can play both wide receiver and cornerback for the Mustangs, and apparently, this new staff is going to let him try.

You could say SMU has a solid history with recruits out of Brenham, just graduating potential first-round NFL draft pick WR Courtland Sutton. Johnson was in touch with the former Brenham cornerback to chat about the Hilltop and he says it helped him make a big decision.

"Big bro (Sutton) put on by telling me SMU was a great experience for him," Johnson said. "Courtland's good people, so I trusted him."

The former Sooner commit has length, speed and a solid work ethic that will likely result in snaps in 2018.

"My dude Coach (David) Gru is going to develop me into an animal at wide receiver," Johnson said. "He's a different breed, he's cool people."
