Braeden West commits to SMU

SMU snagged the commitment of its first running back for 2015 in Katy Seven Lakes prospect Braeden West.
"The coaching staff was what sold me, I really liked them," West said. "Coach (Chad) Morris and the staff are doing a great job and I wanted to come be a part of something."

There was a moment during his official visit last weekend for West, who was previously committed to Houston, when he realized this might be his school.
"When they started showing us the facilities on Saturday, all the educational staff, being around the coaching staff so much, I began to feel like I wanted to be a part of it," West said.
While some recruits mentioned the SMU basketball game as their favorite part of the visit, something else stood out to the new Mustang.
"My favorite part had to be the five-star restaurant they took us to on Saturday night," West said with a laugh. "The city was all lit up in SMU colors and it was beautiful."
The city of Dallas was a surprise to West, but a pleasant one.
"The city was great; it was not what I expected. The city is so much different from campus itself but the city is still great. There's just great people all-around."
West is getting a visit from Morris, Archie McDaniel and Claude Mathis on Thursday night. West bonded quickly with Mathis, his future position coach.
"He's a great guy. He's going to expect the best out of me and that's what you want. I'm going to college improve myself as man, as an athlete, and spiritually too to get me ready for life. He's going to do that for me and I expect to have fun with him."
West, who wants to study broadcast and journalism in school, expects to enroll at SMU shortly after his graduation.
