Playing Tulsa this week brings up some painful memories for some of the current members of the SMU football team. The Mustangs needed one win to be bowl eligible, but it was a win they never saw, and Tulsa's 27-24 victory not only ended SMU's season but left a sour taste in the mouth of the Mustangs for an entire offseason.

"They just beat up on us physically. They just dominated the game really on both lines of scrimmage," SMU coach Sonny Dykes said of a Tulsa team that only won three games last season. "They did a really good job of getting their team ready to play last year.

"We were playing for bowl eligibility, and their guys played harder than We did. Their coaching staff did a better job getting their guys ready than we did."

SMU enters Saturday's matchup with the Golden Hurricane 5-0 (1-0 in American Athletic Conference play) and ranked No. 24 in the AP Top 25. The Mustangs also will enter with last year's game on their minds. Tulsa comes in 2-2 and preparing for their AAC opener.

Chris Harmon, publisher for Inside Tulsa Sports, the Rivals.com site for all things Golden Hurricane-related, stopped by to speak on SMU's opponent and what to expect.
