2010 Running back picks up first offer

It was only a matter of time until Flower Mound Marcus running back Stephen Hopkins received his first offer. On Thursday, the time came.
"I had a conversation with one of the SMU coaches," said the 2010 prospect. "We just started talking and he told me that I now have my first official scholarship. He said that they'd send the stuff in the mail this week."

It was inevitable that Hopkins would soon begin receiving offers after he finished his junior campaign with 1,689 yards 273 carries, averaging 6.2 a carry with 22 touchdowns. The mail from schools around the country had been coming for several months, including several Big 12 programs.
Yet it was the Mustangs who stepped up first and made it clear that they wanted to be in the running in Hopkins' recruitment.
"He said that he knew I was going to get a lot of offers but asked me to considering them and go visit them. I told them that I would."
Though 6-foot-0, 220-pound running back will get many more offers in the near future, atleast he now knows for sure that the opportunity to play football at the Division-I level is now confirmed.
"There are not many juniors that have been offered yet so I guess that means they really like me. I know other programs might offer me after their first offer doesn't work out. I really like how they came to me first. It's really going to help them a lot that they came offer."
