The overwhelming evidence indicates we're both heading to the BSC. For those of you that were around when we all got screwed with the demise of the SWC, I can't congratulate ya'll enough for making it to a BCS conference. The financial windfall from this deal is a major game changer for all of us.

The best part...If UT hadn't been such a bunch of a$$h_les, this opportunity wouldn't have become available for any of us.

Congrats!

Thanks and congratulations to you as well.

Careful what you wish for...

Congrats to the BCS.

You do need to work on attendance. There is no excuse for such a low average.

Just remember...the basketball only schools run the Big East

Posted on 10/16 11:20 AM | IP: Logged

Not the first SMU poster on this board. Speaks volumes for the support.

Not a done deal yet to BE/BCS

Just three years ago we only won 1 game.

Best of luck as a bottom feeder(Northwestern, duke, kentucky,... ) in a crummy conference. the bigeast may get an AQ but they dont deserve it.

Crummy conference compared to which conferences? Average sagarin ranking of the Big East (adjusted for the 6 teams rumored to be added and with Pitt and Syracuse leaving) is 3rd of all conferences, only behind Big 12 and SEC. i.e. ahead of Big 10, ACC (with Pitt and Syracuse added) and Pac-12. Now, if more teams leave the Big East that could change, but I would point out that removing Louisville only helps the average Sagarin rating.

As for being a bottom feeder, SMU is 4th in Sagarin ranking in the adjusted Big East, behind Boise State, West Virginia and UH. SMU is closer in rank to West Virginia than they are to 5th place Rutgers.

Ouch, somebody is quite butthurt.

Where does one not get in that Tulsa is their unfortunate destination?

Posted on 10/19 9:23 AM | IP: Logged

The Big East ahead of the the Big 10? Do you actually believe that? And the ACC? Com'on Man...Michigan State, Nebraska,Michigan,Illinois,Penn State and last but not least Wisconsin (#4), Penn being the only one not currently ranked.....The ACC has Clemson (undefeated), Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech all ranked....The Big East? West Virginia with Rutgers and Cincy at the bottom of the list of the "receiving votes" category. Com'on Man...seeing is believing post a link to this BS!

The BE will lose the AQ status winyin the next two years!

Posted on 10/20 1:43 PM | IP: Logged

Great, and even if it does, whatever teams are in it will benefit from: an infusion of cash, east coast media bias, better bowl tie-ins, better coverage, an uptick in recruiting, increased hometown coverage, increased fan interest, additional TV games, stripping the dead weight from previous conferences (you know, the teams that have no intentions of fielding a competitive program) oh...and the fact that it's a lot harder to take AQ away from cartel members than it is to try and break in to their little club.

So, yeah...awful predicament.

If this rumor is true: C-USA went 3-1 against the Big East this weekend...ECU beat Navy, UAB beat UCF, and USM spanked SMU!and Houston beat Marshall. Big East future sho is bright...

Posted on 10/23 8:24 AM | IP: Logged

Congratulations for the can we opened on you

Posted on 10/23 12:29 PM | IP: Logged

No rumor about it. All fact. The future Big East went 1-3 vs CUSA and also Temple lost to that vaunted Bowling Green program from the MAC. Funny how on field performance, such as consistantly winning programs like East Carolina and Southern Miss who make bowls every year and turn out quality football teams on the field is not getting more consideration and are getting passed over for big city schools that wish they could compete in football with the rest of the country. If the Big East wants to keep their auto bid status, they may want to get better football programs instead of media darlings from TV markets. Last I checked, TV ratings didn't necessarily garner BCS status. You still had to win games, and I think ECU and USM would have been much better choices than SMU and UCF in that category.

Nice showing this weekend by the Wanna Be Big East Conference.

Southern Miss 27, SMU 3.

Enjoy Big Mountain USA.

Congrats Houston, and I hope Southern Miss and East Carolina hit the BCS too.

Actually, plenty of excuses for poor attendance...SMU is a very small school, 6000-7000 undergrads, and very small and spread out alumni.. The students for the last 20 years could not give a rip about footballl and why should they??
Lots of things to do in Dallas, world series in town.
Everybody loves to bag on SMU for fan support, but when you consider their size and competition, it's amazing that they were ever competitive in Southwest conference, and they were always competitive. Hell, they even still regularly beat Arkansas even in their after death penalty years.
They and Doak Walker are the reason Cotton Bowl was expanded, not Texas-ou game.
They used to rule this town, which was plenty remarkable.
And it is remarkable now that they are making a run at the big time again!
I hope West Virginia leaves and they back fill with Southern Miss or East Carolina, both great fan bases. West Virginia will rue the day, they will find pillow talk with Bevo not so great!

By the time they make you an official offer, all that will be left is
Cinn, Rutgers, South Fla and Villinova.

Oh BOY!

The MWC/Cusa conglomerate is much more attractive!

Folks. as Mike Slive said and the Executive Director of the BCS has indicated, in the next BCS contract there will be NO AQ spots. The bids will go to the ten teams with the highest ranking. The SEC doesn't want to be limited to only 2 spots and that is one way to get it, and it also gets rid of any anti-trust legal challenges because no school gets left out. They can say that it is all based on "performance." So it won't matter what conference you are in any more.

Yeah, we deserve that right now. But we were Top 10 not that long ago and won our BCS bowl in 2007. A bad coaching hire hurt us badly, but we're moving in the right direction now.

I would like to point out that there are only 2 teams in the nation right now who haven't allowed more than 25 points in any one game this season: Alabama and Louisville.

Our starting offense consists of 8 freshmen, and our QB is a true freshman. By the time you play a Big East schedule, we'll no longer be a team to look to to lower the Sagarin ratings.

And don't think we'll be leaving, either. It didn't work out with the Big 12 and now I doubt that it ever will. There are many of us who don't want it to.

SMU and U of H to the big east is not only good for the two schools but good for football in Texas. Good luck to both schools.

I hope U of L stays. They would be a fairly close rival other than UH.

Dude youu must be young! Not to remember the days of thr PONY EXPRESS in the SWC and Eric Dickerson!! With June Jones as HC and AQ status the days for wide open recruiting will escalate SMU back to where it once was. I remember the days when SMU kicked Tex., Okla., Ark., there and back, again. GO Stangs and go Cougars!!!
