It has been reported for over a week now that Garland high school two-star linebacker Nick Horton was close to committing to SMU. Many thought it could happen as early as last weekend when the prospect made an unofficial visit to the Hilltop.

But after the visit the linebacker was still not completely ready to make a final decision.

"I just want to talk to my dad more about it before I do," said Horton after the visit. "I have not had a chance to talk to him very often because he has to work a lot but I hope to this week."

On Thursday night, however, Horton decided he had waited long enough.

"I e-mailed coach Mason that I am ready to commit," Horton told PonyPride Thursday night. "I e-mailed him around 6:40PM and am just waiting on a response now."

That response came on Friday around noon as coach Mason, who is Japan for an American Football event, and Horton exchanged e-mails.

"He e-mailed me back around noon and I told him I was ready to commit. I can't talk to him on the phone since he is in Japan. He just said that he was excited to coach me and that he is sure I will be a great linebacker."

Horton says that the commitment feels good and that he feels less stress now moving forward into his senior season at Garland high school.

Horton admittedly has had the Mustangs at the top of his list for a while and he is very confident in his interest in the Mustangs.

"I just feel like I have thought about it enough and I am ready to make my final decision. It is a great school and I like the coaches."

Later this summer the two-star says he plans to attend a camp at Texas A&M on July 18th but other than that no visits are planned.

"I am a pretty solid commitment. I am not really looking around at schools anymore."

Horton is the 15th commitment of the 2013 class for SMU.
